Webquest Complete!

I completed my Webquest which is appropriate for Kindergarten and First grade.

Here it is!!

After I presented my Farm Webquest to the class, Mackenzie presented hers on the branches of government and then we did a course evaluation/

We also took the same survey that we took at the beginning of the year to see our improvements. Here is the ETSE Survey.

And for the record, Charlie was lame and must have slept in today because he wasn't in class and I am going to be a tattle tale.

Multimedia Principles/ Who wants to be a Millionaire

Today I added a link into my sidebar on my website about Multimedia Design.

I also learned how to add attachments such as the Jeopardy game and Millionaire game to my Google Site.

I updated the first for questions of the Millionaire game for 3rd grade Math. It starts out easy, but gets to their level eventually. Here is the FTP.

I really believe that this addresses Intasc Standard Principle 4:Instructional strategies/problem solving:
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.

Powerpoint Embed

PowerPoint

Today we discussed PowerPoint. We talked about saving it as ppt, pps, htm, mht, and pdf. I found an awesome PowerPoint on colors probably appropriate for kindergarten level. It is saved as a ppt, I saved this PowerPoint under different formats. The htm format was the worst . The pdf format was nice, but the transitions were lost. We then uploaded the powerpoint to the FTP site. Here are the powerpoints saved as FTPs: PDF HTM PPT PPSX

The following INTASC STANDARDS were covered:

Principle 3:
Learning styles/diversity The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.
Principle 4:
Instructional strategies/problem solving The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
Principle 6:
Communication/knowledgeThe teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

The link to my script is available if you click on Podcast. I can't record today because I lost my voice over the weekend and I don't want to sound like a scary man on my podcast. I will just record it on my own over the weekend when I don't sound so crappy.

2/17 Class

We discussed what is to be required on lesson plans.

We then went back to the Kid's Zone website and the NAEP site to make a chart of students with IEPs in West Virginia and the three poorest sites. Here is my chart:

That is just a small view of it. I also saved it to this google document:
IEP Chart

We also went to the Crappy Graphics website to create a "Crappy Graphic." I made a Venn Diagram about the differences and similarities in Main Characters. Here is the link to my graph: Crappy Graphics Chart
here is it in a google doc: Google Doc of Crappy Graphics Diagram
and here is a small image of it:

The following INSTASC Standards were used in these lessons today:
Principle 3:
Learning styles/diversity The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.

Principle 4:
Instructional strategies/problem solving The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.

Principle 6:
Communication/knowledge The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

Class 2/12

Today we discussed the power of print screen. Print screen copies what ever is viewable on your moniter. It can be pasted into a paint document. IF you save your image as a JPG, it will use considerably less memory than a BMP.

We then went to the Kid's Zone - a free graphing tool online.

We then went to the National Center for Education Statistics and viewed West Virginia's profile.

I then created a graph at the Kid's Zone comparing WV's NAEP scores in math for 8th grade to the national average:

The graph is also viewable in a google document:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=d4qnbb8_13bphjsdx

INTASC Standards:
Principle 4:
Instructional strategies/problem solvingThe teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Here is my graphic

This is a graphic that I created in Paint that I could use in a 4th or 5th grade classroom to help students understand the layers of the earth:

This would cover the 3rd INTASC Principle:

Principle 3:
Learning styles/diversityThe teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.

Some learners really need to visualize something and this graphic would be another learning strategy for a visual learner

Class 2/10

Today we talked about mini laptops. Dell has one for only $250. It's a relatively inexpensive way to have internet access. We went over Dale's Cone which I talked about in my last blog post. Here's a pic of the cone from http://teacherworld.com/ :

We discussed where tofind the Resume feature google docs. In google docs, you click "from template" under "new"

We also talked how the web has progressed in the past 5000 days. GPS and online classes are two things that have been introduced. We also discsussed the top 10 web trends.

Class 2/5

Today we didn't have class due to weather, but we were told to read the following link:
http://sites.google.com/site/educ2201/Home/still-images

I went ahead and read the Multimodal Learning Through Media Link and answered the following questions:

Describe what Dale's Cone of Experience is?
A "visual metaphor" depicting types of learning, from the concrete to the abstract

Is Dale's Cone of Experience logical? Factual?
The data can't be found, but Dale's "bogus data" is more a representative of a "rounded-off generalization based on Phillip's experience and probably some test data, at the Ordinance School.

How does Dales' Cone of Experience comport with current research on teaching and learning in the assigned reading. After the reading, comment on your opinion of the validity of Dale's Cone of Experience.
Visual Symbols are part (though small) of Dale's original cone. The difference with today's research is that it is based on a better and more available technology. I do agree with Dale's Cone because I think that Direct Purposeful Experiences will always be important

First Day of EDUC 2201

So it's the first day of class in Instructional Technology. We all introduced ourselves and created this blog.

I'm Sarah Pryor. I'm from the very small town of Paden City, WV. My town is at the bottom of the Northern Panhandle along the Ohio River. I'm a sophomore. I work in the student employment office on campus. I'm taking twenty hours of classes this semester. I'm hoping to graduate a semester early: December 2010. I then plan on getting a master's degree, but I am not positive what in.
